September 2009
Hi my name is Panda but my mommy loves to call me her China Doll because she thinks that I have the most beautiful sleek eyes.
I came to live with my new family in August of 2009. At first, I was scared, everything was so new and big and there were no smells that I recognized. I didn’t know what to think. I soon realized that with all the love and affection that I was getting in my short time being there, with so many play toys and two doggy beds, I knew deep down that my new family would and take good care of me. I was so excited to see that I also had an older furry chi, named Chulo who, I was told, would be my big brother. At first I found him mean and non-sociable, he didn’t even acknowledge me. I just wanted to play and jump all over him. He would not have any of that.
I am happy to report that with time, Chulo has learned to accept me, in fact I think he even likes me, as he lets me sleep next to him and lets me take over mommy’s bed and blankets, there’s even times that he licks me all over when he thinks I’m not looking. I try to remember not to bite him so hard as he growls at me when I bite his back legs, he just doesn’t get that all I want to do is play. Mommy takes us on long walks every night because she tells me that I have way more energy than a chi should have. I have lots of new furry friends that I socialize with at the park and lots of people telling me that I am so cute.
I want to thank Terry and CCRT for finding my new family; I think I love them more than they love me. I am so happy to be in my new home, I get lots of love and kisses and daily training treats. Mommy bought me a new pink harness with diamonds and matching leash for those long walks. I can’t wait to see what overcoats she has for me in the winter!
I am at my forever home!
Thank you.

Gizmo is setting in really well; he is a little sucky. All the dogs are getting along great now he starting to feel like one of the family. he is slowly accepting my hubby here he's sitting with him on the couch and letting him pet him once and awhile.
He love his walks. He goes twice a day for about 45 minutes to an hour and he lets me put on his harness. This took some work but he knows if he wants to go for a walk he has to wear it. He knows where all the neighborhood dogs live and goes like a bat out of hell to get there.
He and Duncan have their fun barking and peeing on their space its really funny to watch. He has almost the same personality as Duncan.
Our next project is to get him in the doggie pool and since he is very unsure about new things it will take some time for him to feel comfortable — little baby steps. He is getting better when it comes to meeting new people. He still has a way to go but I'm sure once he completely trusts me it will get better. He loves his bed time and he snuggles right up to me in bed. Sometimes he cries to go to bed if he is tired and wants me to go to bed— it's funny . We love him very much; he is a special boy.
Over a year ago I began a search for a dog. I had just moved out of my Mom's house and was feeling a bit lonely.
Prior to moving out, my dog of 17 years died. She and I were the best of friends. So I felt a huge void in my life. Finally, I thought I had ended my search. I found a friend of my boyfriend's who was adopting out dogs. I thought this was my chance. I picked out one, told them they gave it away.. this happened three times. The last time the night I was supposed to drive 2 hours north to pick her up, they called me and said I couldn't have her because they didn't want to give her away. I was devastated and ended my search — or so I thought.
My oldest sister sent me a place that was adopting out Chihuahuas. I had never been interested in them before. I started researching and checking the website constantly. It took some time but then I found Kaylee on the CCRT (Canadian Chihuahua Rescue and Transport).
I went to visit her and it was love at first sight. I wanted to take her home right then and there. She was a bit nervous but overall more comfortable then I imagined a rescue dog would be. So I brought her home and from there it is history.
It took me a while to write this because I wondered why dogs needed a "Happy Ending" story. But last night really made me realize. I became very ill suddenly and Kaylee was there crying and running around the house when I was in so much pain I couldn't move. When my mom arrived to help me Kaylee followed us downstairs and laid right beside me in bed (even though she is not allowed). When my mom came to take her outside Kaylee growled and laid on top of me. She was not leaving my side. When I made trips to the bathroom during my time of illness she followed me and tried to sit on my lap. She was my little protector that night.
And so I realized people need to hear her story and how she has graced my life. I honestly couldn't imagine it any other way! Carmen
My name is Whammy! I am soooo happy in my new home, I have lots of other furry siblings to keep me company, so I’m NEVER truly alone. Lily is my favourite sibling, she came from CCRT too, so we have lots in common!
I am totally spoiled, my new mum and dad already bought me a new harness, it’s camoflauge and my dad calls me Whambo when I wear it…he thinks it’s very funny when he does that. I have new sparkly charm for my collar and already have 3 new sweaters! There are lots of dog beds in my new home, but I really prefer to be on my mum or dad’s lap, which is fine by them. I get to sleep in their bed too!
I have a big back yard that I can run around in and I love to go for long walks on the weekend. I don’t like to be alone very much when they go to work, but I know as soon as they get home, I get to be with them for the whole time. They keep telling me to look forward to something called Woofstock, they say that I’m going to love it, I’ll get to go out with them for the whole day and with my sister Robin (she’s kind of a beauty queen or something).
I have lots of toys to choose from and play with them sometimes on the couch, that’s if I’m not sleeping on a lap, which is my absolute favourite thing to do. I like to give big kisses too, my mum says I give sloppy kisses, but she doesn’t seem to mind, sometimes I give Lily kisses too, she loves when I do that! My mum and dad sometimes just look at me and tell me how much they love me and how very cute I am, they say that they are very lucky that they were chosen to be my new parents, I feel the same way too!
I want to say thank you to my foster mum Jean and to my friend Terry at CCRT who took me in and found me this amazing place to live, I am finally home again!
Love Whammy

Bella is fitting in with our family fabulously. She gets up at 8 every morning by waking me up to feed her. She eats a lot. Her and Buffy are like sisters that have always been together. They eat together and sleep together, ride in the crate together, and they play together. Buffy shares her toys nicely and she waits for Bella to catch up when they play fetch. They chase the cat together and have a great time playing chase. At 12 noon they both have a nap on my lap.
We are still having a few small issues with Bella for potty training but she is coming along. She is now about 4 lbs and her health does not seem to be a problem. She is getting very talkative with us and barks at me when she wants things. She is a great addition to our family and she is Buffy's playmate just like we wanted. She will be travelling soon to Virginia Beach for a visit but she seems to like the car, so we think she will be fine.

(adopted June 26, 2008)
Since adopting Bella, she has been nothing but a silly little charmer.
She warmed up to us within hours and settled into her new home quite easily. She loves our downtown neighbourhood and gets along great with the doggie neighbours we meet during our walks and at the nearby park.
When she's not napping in her cosy bed or beside us on the couch, Bella loves gnawing on her toys or munching on carrots. Her sweet, silly personality is a perfect match to ours and everyone that meets her can't help but smile. All it takes is one of her trademark winks or a shake of her little paw. Even friends of ours that are " cat people" or weren't that into dogs were quickly converted after just a few minutes with her.
The ladies of the CCRT are just amazing and made the whole process easy and effortless. They knew exactly which dogs might suit our home and made a great choice in pairing us up with Bella. We've recommended the CCRT to all our friends and family. We can't begin to express how much joy we get from having her in our lives.
Thanks so much!
Alexia and Terry

January 2009
We began fostering for the CCRT in January 2006. At that time we told Terry, jokingly, that if a "chocolate" Chihuahua puppy came in, we would like to foster him/her. Our first foster was Roxie.
Roxie had been a stray on the streets of Toronto for who knows how long. Because she bit the lady who trapped her, Animal Services was not able to adopt her out. So, Roxie came to stay with us. Roxie was a wild funny girl and she made us laugh. She had definite "quirks," but we just accepted that as part of her personality. Roxie had severe separation anxiety whenever anyone left the house. She also barked at noises outside, no matter how small. Roxie was a very high-energy girl and loved her toys.
After three-and-a-half months, Roxie was adopted to a family. Four months later, Roxie was back. Roxie had bald chafing marks on her belly and shoulders from a harness, which had obviously been left on constantly. Her nails had also never been clipped. Roxie was adopted out again, twice, but came back in less than a week each time. At that point, we decided that Roxie was best kept in our home because no one else seemed to "understand" her. The behaviors people reported were not seen in our home at all. We adopted Roxie the next day. She still has the bald marks from the harness, still has separation anxiety, still barks at everything outside and is still very high-energy, but we love her to pieces. She will probably always have her issues, but we have no idea what she went through before coming into our home, so we just deal with them. She will not have to worry about going anywhere ever again.
In the meantime, a "chocolate" puppy had come in and the first call Terry made was to us. Scooby arrived in August of 2006. Scooby is the friendliest funniest little guy. He was neutered and adopted by us in less than a week. We believe that Scooby is the closest thing to the "perfect" dog you will ever find. Scooby is not destructive at all, except for two heating pad cords (plugged in at the time); he does not mess in the house; is not the least bit aggressive; shares food, toys and his bed; loves everybody; rarely barks; and even squats when he pees. Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting Scooby understands why he was not going anywhere.

October 2008
Sweet little Nemo has brought so much life into our family in just the few weeks that he’s been with us. This 11-month-old little boy continues to fulfill us every day with his unconditional love and comical attitude. After having recently lost our dear loving Tina, a Chihuahua of 16 years, Nemo has certainly filled in her shoes (paws) in many different ways.
Every morning when he gets up from his basket, it’s a ritual for him to come up on our bed and cuddle up because he certainly is a cuddle bug.

Then after breakfast, he brings us his special offerings like his little stuffed squirrel and teddy bear. If it was up to him he would play fetch all day. When we become busy with our daily chores, he sits by the door with his stuffed toy just waiting for someone to notice him. He is certainly a comical little guy always making us laugh with his playful disposition.

He has already had the chance to meet his extended family, who loves him dearly. My sister is his favorite aunt because she has a little toy poodle that Nemo just adores to play with. Each time I pull into their driveway, he becomes very anxious and cries like a little baby because he is so excited to be able to play with Tootsie. Our parents think that he is one of the sweetest little dogs they have ever seen.
Nemo has bonded so well with my husband and I in just the past few weeks, that we truly believe that he is a gift of love from above and that we were meant to be together for his lifetime.

Our thanks go out to Kathleen & Albert and their family who were Nemo’s foster parents. I truly believe that it is special people like them who make it possible for happy endings like this to happen.
Yours truly
Louis & Pauline

In July 2007 we applied to adopt Abby. We did all the necessary steps and when we were accepted as a forever home for Abby, we got the unfortunate news that she was adopted elsewhere. We were disappointed to say the least but, about a week later, we got the call telling us that she had been returned and we were asked if we were still interested in adopting her. Absolutely!! We were so thrilled! The plan was to pick her up in Oshawa. We were nervous about meeting her (would she like us?) so we got there before she got there. When she arrived we fell in love. She is a beauty!
She has now been with us over a year and she is just such a wonderful part of the family. She has a little baby "sister" Emma, a 5 pound chihuahua. Our home has been a flurry of activity with the 2 little ones chasing each other and playing. Of course Abby is the fastest always, obviously the Italian greyhound in her. When she lets Emma catch her they just love rolling around together. Emma loves to lick Abby's face and ears and Abby just lays back and lets her go to it.
Abby has become "Daddy's girl" and when she is relaxing it is usually beside him . as close as she can get. She learns so quickly and has learned to crawl, sit pretty, roll over and dance . for her treats of course. She loves to have her belly rubbed and scratched and can be such a card to get your attention.
We are so thankful to the CCRT for this special girl!

Lucy and JuanitaMy husband and I are HUGE dog lovers and wanted a dog of our own. We kept putting it off because I was still attached to my parents dog/my childhood dog, who is still alive and a big part of my life. And then I realized that Bella would never live with me, and I wasn't willing to deny myself the joy of having a dog to come home to. So for months and months we checked back on CCRT's website often, and of course we wanted to take home every Chihuahua we saw! And then came the listing for Lucy and Juanita. There was something about them that just made me send an email about them that day. The first time we visited them, I went in there still unsure about whether I was ready to love another dog, and all I can remember is Lucy climbing into my lap, and looking up at me with her huge adorable eyes, as if to say, "Hi Mommy, I'm ready to come home with you now." They just melted my heart! We knew after the first visit that they were meant to be ours...it just took a second visit to make sure we were ready! So after two trips to visit with them, and a third to sign the adoption papers and take them home, they were officially ours. I got over my fear of having my own dogs, for fear that I would be replacing Bella in some way, even though she was still alive, but I realized (with the help of Terry) that it's because I love Bella that I wanted my own dog to love...and we were getting two so it was going to be twice as much love! It's been two months now since we adopted them, and I can't even describe in words how much we love Lucy and Juanita. We already love them beyond words, and yet our love for them seems to get stronger and stronger everyday. I'm not going to lie and say it wasn't an adjustment at first, especially on their part but after the first two weeks had passed, everything since has fallen into place and it's like they've been here all along. Juanita is the sweetest dog EVER! When she stares at you, it's nothing but love and adoration. And you can just see all her wisdom; like she has something important to say but doesn't know how to tell you because, well she's a dog! Lucy always keeps us laughing with her cute little hanging tongue and all her antics! And she doesn't walk, she prances and marches! And when she wants to be picked up, her big and sweet eyes melt my heart! They are both incredibly smart, and beyond adorable! I find we are less stressed because of them and we don't seem to sweat the small stuff anymore. Mark comes home from work more relaxed, and I seem to get my school work done a lot faster. I spend a lot of time taking pictures of them and we both constantly cuddle and smother them with kisses! They are truly a blessing. We can't thank Lucy and Juanita's foster mom, Joy, enough. She did SO much for these little souls, and we will be forever grateful for everything. And we know the girls hold a special place in their heart for her as well. We also thank both Joy, and Terry for all their support and belief in us as dog parents. We will never forget you both. The two of you, and CCRT will forever be in our hearts. Love always,
RudyOctober 2008 A he is adorable Rudy is in his ever home now,he fits in with his buddies Morag{the dachshund] and Lucy[the other long haired rescue chichi]. Rudy sings his song of welcome when we come home and does his twirly dance and silly runs all over the house!!He no longer has corneal ulcers, all cured and his dry eyes are no more..He loves the sun shine and bathes in its rays whenever he can along with the rest of the gang, always ready for a walk even in the rain, and follows like a shadow everywhere. He is our much loved boy, affectionet, loyal, feisty,a lap lover and bed bug at bedtime,we could not do without him now... LaylaMay 2008 It all happened in May 2008. After a couple attempts at adoption, Doris called me on Mother's Day weekend and told me all about Betty (now Layla). I was so excited and felt in my heart that she was the one suited for me. Doris was her foster Mom and I cannot thank her enough for her intuition. I fell in love the moment I met Layla and that love comes back to me everyday, unconditionally. She wiggles and dances when I come home from work because she knows we go out for big walks in the neighbourhood. At home we undulge in long tummy rubs before and after dinner times. She is on her best behaviour when we go visiting and gives her love to her extended family. It is hard to imagine that she was abandoned after 5 years of being taken care of, apparently quite well. We are working on schedules and training for good and improved manners. Many thanks to Doris and Terri for their support and help in making Layla's adoption a blessing in my life. The CCRT is a wonderful, caring and professional organization that I was fortunate to work with and will continue to support in the years to come.

RegMay 2008 I was in deep mourning and didn't expect to ever meet another dog that I could love like Sophie. I was having a difficult time coming to terms with her passing so when I called Terry Fogel, merely to inquire about a dog whose picture intrigued me, the last thing I expected was to end up with Reg. Reg was not the dog I called Terry about. I'd seen his picture but I'd never had a male dog before and hadn't really considered getting a male dog or indeed having another dog in my life so soon after Sophie left me. Terry, whose wisdom knows no bounds, suggested I take a look at Reg (who was at that point called Razzie). I looked at his picture and read his bio. Logged off and then couldn't stop thinking about him. I logged on again and there he was grinning at me. After several days of this I arranged to do a quick meet and greet (what a joke, Terry and I knew the outcome before I even got in the car). I drove to Tillsonburg and there was "Razzie" with his foster mom, Dona. To say that he's handsome is selling him short. You're immediately drawn to him because he has a sweet face, beautiful markings and colour and the most amazing way of walking. He prances like a show horse. He's alert, curious and all boy. He's 7 years old and like a human boy, ready to soak up everything the world has to offer. If it stinks, he has to rub in it; if it moves quickly, he has to chase it; he gulps down his water after an exhausting walk (which in his case means running and jumping and speed-walking) and will then look at me, burp and produce a small puddle of said water. He'll lick it up though - what a thoughtful guy. He has managed to destroy all the toys marked "indestructible", he's torn all his blankets and eaten the legs off of all his toy monsters and other rubber animals. He prefers the Mickey D's of the dog world (treats and snacks) to the healthy organic food that he has to eat. He's a fierce protector as long as I'm standing in front of him and there is serious danger that once you're his friend, he'll lick you to death. His licks start out with "man, I'm really glad to see you" and finish with "man, that sweat on your arm tastes fine!". He enjoys his daily massage and I get the "look back" if I stop before he's ready. He will wear out my throwing arm before he slows down playing fetch. He doesn't need any help getting up or down anywhere. And he smiles. He smiles all the time. When he greets me, his entire body wags - and I might only have stepped out the door for 5 minutes. He's always genuinely pleased to see me. He makes me laugh every day. I cannot cuddle him enough. He snuggles and cuddles and makes "lovey eyes". Sometimes he'll be in the middle of a game or a walk and he'll look at me with his lovey eyes and I know that he's happy. And so am I. Christine |

Connie and MochaMay 2008 Hi, we're Connie and Mocha, we are two lovely girls (so our mom and dad have told us) who were adopted in November. Our mom and dad saw our pictures on the web, and fell in love with us right away and applied to adopt us. We now have a forever home. We have our own room to play in while mom and dad are at work and a new floor was installed just for us. In our room we have a couch, 3 beds, a radio and a TV. We really don't watch much TV but we do listen to the radio when we are home alone. We also have a large fenced in yard to play in. Mom and Dad have started taking us for walks when the weather permits. We weren't too excited about the idea at first but now we love it. We still find the world a scary place at times but with mom and dad by our side we are slowly learning to trust. We would like to thank everybody that helped bust us out of the prison we were in and a special thank you to our foster parents, Kathleen and Albert, who kept our bellies full, put a roof over our heads and helped us gain our strength back. They are very kind and dedicated people and found the most perfect forever home for us. Also, thank you to everyone at CCRT for all your time, energy and great work. Connie, Mocha, Randy and Peggie
January 2009I thought you might like to know that Connie and Mocha have graduated from the intermediate class at PetSmart. This class consisted of a total of 5 small dogs including our two. One tiny Chihuahua, one Chihuahua mix, a papillon and of course their owners and a couple of kids. We are very proud of our girls and they certainly have earned a place in the trainer's heart. He tells everyone about how far they have come. He certainly has earned his bragging rights. We plan to enroll them into the advanced when the weather is better for them and we can practice walking.
DaraFebruary 2008 In early February, I picked Dara up after an anxious two-week wait. I’ve renamed her Roxanne – Roxy! – because she is a little girl with so much spunk. It seems to suit her very well and everyone who meets her thinks so too. When we got home, Roxy ran around exploring, a little unsure of her new digs, but not afraid either. We spent a lot of time cuddling and playing and she settled in quickly. Our first night she had a great sleep (though I think I slept with one eye open) and we quickly established our bond and our new routine. Roxy has become a bit of an office mascot too as I brought her into work with me. She gets spoiled with belly rubs by my coworkers at the office. She’s also met my friends and family who all immediately took a liking to her. We went to visit Grandma and Grandpa for a weekend and she LOVED playing with Grandpa as well as being out in the country (like at her foster home) and the big house to explore. Her Aunties came to visit us another weekend and spoiled us both with lots of new things for Roxy including a new “wabbit” hunting outfit. It’s been almost 4 weeks now and we’ve both come a long way. Roxy and I started obedience classes and she is a smart cookie, learning quickly – although she is easily distracted by all the other playful pups! I love seeing her smile at me when I wake up in the morning, as well as when I come home from being out. It’s nice to have someone so excited to see you and it makes me excited too. Now we can’t wait until spring when we’ll be able to go for long walks by the river and in the park. Thanks to foster mommy Lee and CCRT for helping me make this beautiful connection. Laura
Chester and TwinkleFebruary 2008 Hi, I’m Chester and in early December I was introduced to my new forever family and they took me home to Toronto from the Ottawa area - (that’s me on the right in the black bed). I learned a lot from my foster parents and my furry foster sister so I was able to adjust very quickly. It is really easy to entertain my new family – all I have to do is sit up on my hind legs and wave my paws at them and they all melt! I cock my head from side to side when they talk to me and they really think I am listening! I have really become attached to one of my sisters, but in her absence, any lap or bed will do. Just when I thought I had the run of the roost a new furry sister arrived in March. She had been over for a couple of play dates and I found her rather amusing for a girl (that’s her on the left on the red bed). My family calls her Twinkle. Hi, I’m Twinkle and I let Chester think he has the run of the roost! I may be smaller than him, but he doesn’t push me around at all. I’ve been through a lot in my months in CCRT foster care, and my forever family waited a long time for me. I think they will work out just fine – I just have to train them on a few more things! My new brother and I have a pretty good time together chasing each other around, rolling around, playing and finding objects to play tug of war like socks or gloves. Sometimes when we’re done, Chester is panting. I bet he loses a pound or two! I usually let him rest when I am done with him. Here’s our mom, I want to go and chase Chester. The “kids” have said it all. My family and I are very grateful to CCRT and especially Rachel and Kristen for all of their care, dedication and hard work with our “kids”. They bring great joy and much laughter into our home and we are thankful for all of the hard work that you all do. You are special people. Sincerely,
Chester and Twinkle |
