January 2008

Feb 1st 2007 was the best day of my life, even though I didn't know it yet. I was adopted out that night to I guess a very nice lady by the name of Debbie. She wrapped me in a blanket and in the car we went. I arrived home to meet my new family. First to greet me was Hayley, the wheaten. What a blonde bomb shell. We hit it off right away. Then came Natalie-Cole the standard poodle and Blu the cat. They all seemed nice enough. Well, now 11 months later all is real good, I love Hayley the best. We sleep together, play together and I wrap myself into her arms and we kiss. Natalie makes a great fur blanket, soft and big. And then there's Blu. It's a real love hate relationship. You chase me and I chase you. Life couldn't be better.

Now for my mom Debbie. Every morning and every night she tells me how much she loves me. She kisses my neck and tickles my arms and I love it. I have lots of toys and I get to chew Bullwinkle's and I have a dog pillow bed that really all mine. We lie on the couch and snuggle together and I always fall asleep in her arms. I'm never too far away from her.

Life is still pretty scary in the real world outside my house and probably always will be. But at home I'm happy and feel safe.

I love my family. Don't they say home is where your heart is. Mine is in Richmond Hill. As 2008 approaches, I know I'm looking forward to a great year Happily ever after

Teddy Teddy and friends

January 2008

Teddy is doing well.  He loves his new brothers - still iffy on the cat.  He is walking much better and his legs are stronger with all the running off leash in a large field.  Teddy is still easily threatened by men, but is very affectionate once he gets to know even the tallest person.  We are feeding him Solid Gold (a holistic human grade food) and he is muscular now!  Everyone falls in love with Teddy and there are many requests to take him home (joking of course, since we couldn't part with him).   He is a joy.

Prince

PrinceDecember 2007
It has been a bit more than a year since we adopted Prince. I just wanted to tell you that he has been a wonderful dog. He had trouble trusting people in the first three months but is an entirely different dog now. He is extremely intelligent, loyal, well trained and a very loving dog. We cannot imagine getting another dog better than him.

James Dean

December 2007James and Emily

It has been almost 7 months since our little James came into our lives and I wanted to update you on how things have been going. He is a such wonderful boy, so full of love and fun. He bounded into our lives and bonded with our family and with our little Emily, the two of them became fast pals and are almost inseparable. It's quite touching to watch them if one goes outside or they are apart for a short while, once back together, they run into the house and find the other and have a kiss then they run around and wrestle - oh so tough!.

We spent the summer weekends camping at the lake with our Grandsons and Emily and James both loved it - pampered pooches though, I had to camp in a tent but since we got them, we apparently needed a trailer. It is fun though! They went for long walks with Mom and Daddy, and ran around and got lots of fresh air. We also took a family trip to Nova Scotia which was alot of fun and we all loved the walks (or wrestling) along the shore at the ocean, which more than made up for the long car ride. James is quite a good little traveller.

I can't begin to tell you how happy we are with our James and just how lucky we are to have found him through your wonderful organization! Everyone has been just super to deal with and I will always feel a special bond with James' foster mom, Lee who took such good care of him and loves him so much.

PrincessPrincess

The moment Princess entered our front door she was greeted by my two sons Benjamin and Tyler, my two dogs Posey and Timmy, and my two cats Bacci and Sabrina. All six gave Princess a warm welcome. She instantly became a member of our large family.

I adopted Princess after losing my best friend Maggie, a 17 year old Chihuahua, from heart disease. My Maggie was very ill for many years and because my husband is a Veterinarian, she received the best medical care possible during the last years of her life. I wanted to give the same love and care to another senior dog. That was when I found Princess at CCRT. She is the sweetest and gentlest creature ever. I wanted Princess to enjoy that last few years of her life.

We adopted Princess knowing that she has a heart murmur. Once she settled in with us, my husband did blood work and did chest x-ray's on her. He immediately put her on heart medication and a bronchodilator. She is doing very well. You would never know that she has heart disease . She enjoys going for long walks with my son and having catnaps on her Elmo chair.

I would to thank Trish and Terry giving me the privilege of having Princess become part our family.

TigerTiger

November 2007

This little guy is Tiger, he is two years old, he was 11 months old when he came to his "for ever home". He was afraid of every one that he saw, and would always hide behind me, he knew I was his mom right away, and I always picked him up and reassured him that everything was o.k. But in time with lots of tender loving care he's doing fantastic, he's come a long way. He loves the backyard and loves chases the birds away from "his" yard, he loves his walks and loves being cuddled. He has a best friend named Duke, he is my daughters jack-russel, they play all day long when they are together, they really have a ball. Tiger has brought a lot of love, joy and happiness into my life and I'm gratefull and so lucky to have him. I thank God every day. I love my little munchkin.
Thank-you,
Sara and Tiger

ZoeyZoe and Friends

December 2007

Just a few words to let you know how well Zoey has settled in with us, Leon and me , Alfie and Sophie, the dachshunds. In fact I think that she thinks she is one too. She sleeps in our bed. She is a darling little girl and quite a different dog to the one who came to live with us. Her housebreaking has come on very well as she copies the others. Her fur is so shiny now and in fact she is the picture of health.

Please pass this note on to the rescue and thank them very much for our dear little dog.
Regards from R

A word from Zoey: My babies, Bennie and Sadie, are in the most wonderful forever home. I'm in a wonderful forever home. We all get together at Terry and Ian's house so I often see my babies and my foster family. Life is good!

Sadie and BennieSadie and Bennie

November 2007

hi everyone. We want to introduce ourselves. We are Sadie and Bennie, the gorgeous and beautiful puppies brought into this world by our mother Zoey and her GREAT vet. We have our forever home and the best other forever foster home to go to. We are quickly teaching our new mom what we want her to know- like when she wants us to go for a walk on leash, we just flop flat on our tummies and then laugh, laugh laugh at her.
We also have a forever brother and sister cat.Is that a lot of getting used to!!.We especially love going to visit with our foster family. Mommy Terry just laughs and keeps trying clothes on us and then taking pictures. We tolerate this because we love her.Daddy Ian lets us jump all over him. What a good start we had.And its only getting better and better every day!!

Melanie

MelanieNovember 2007

Melanie, so aptly named by the Humane Society staff because she came in to them looking very much like a big watermelon, had been found as a stray in the summer of 2007. Due to her age, obesity (almost 20 pounds!) and possible health issues, the Humane Society knew she would not be adoptable via traditional shelter methods so they contacted CCRT so we could Melanie.

As a CCRT volunteer, I picked her up in mid July 2007 and she was supposed to spend just a few days with me until she could be transported to her foster home in Elliot Lake. However, it proved to be difficult to get her there and she spent almost 4 weeks with me. She very quickly proved to be a comical, loving and extremely well behaved dog. Why she was never claimed from the Humane Society from her owners will remain a mystery for years to come.

Sadly, a few days before Melanie was transported to Elliot Lake, my own Chihuahua, Newton, passed away after having been my best buddy for 14 years. I was devastated and considered adopting Melly, but knew now wasn’t the time to make that decision. Melly left for Elliot Lake and spent 2.5 months in excellent foster care being spoiled rotten.

Finally, in October 2007, after having kept in constant touch with her foster home and growing to love Melly more and more, I realized I needed her and perhaps, she needed me too. On October 20, 2007, we drove from Ottawa to Elliot Lake and back (on the same day!) to pick her up and bring our baby home.

It took a few days for her get settled again but in no time she was back to her clownish and adorable ways. Melly likes to sleep late and loves belly SO much she actually will fling herself onto her back just for rubs. She will sit pretty, give a ‘high 5’ and dance for treats. Melly also enjoys her walks a lot – sometimes, she gets so excited when she sees her harness that instead of just sitting down normally to have you place it on her, she shoots her back legs out so her behind falls to the ground. Melly has also lost a remarkable 5 pounds and while she still has a few pounds to go, she in well on her way to a healthy, happy weight.

She has instantly become my best girl and while Newton remains my angel in heaven, Melly is my angel on earth.

Victor

August 2007 Victor

Victor came to his forever home in August 2007. He is slowly beginning to trust his new found family. He likes his new mom and follows her everywhere. He enjoys his furry sister Lucy and brother Buddy(adopted April /07).He loves to chase squirrels in the back yard and loves a good walk, keeping up with the rest despite his small size.He loves his Grandpa and allowed him to pet him at first sight, which was wonderful, because he is still too frightened to allow his family to pet him.He is a good boy and very muched loved by his family. Victor is greatly excited by chicken jerky and does a very cute dance nightly for it. We thank the CCRT for taking such good care of him.We also would like to thank his foster mom Diane and Terry for making his adoption possible. Also for their dedication, patience and true love for their cause and their little special, furry babies.

Belle

October 2007Belle

On June 25, 2007 a little sweetie came to her foster mom scared and confused. She immediately found her foster brother's bed laid down and had a nice long needed nap. Little Belle weighed in at 6 pounds and a chi mix, her black and caramel furry coat was so soft, but she really needed a bath. Her foster mom put her in the tub shampooed her and she was as good as new, she did have to undergo some vet visits at first, tumor removal, some teeth pulled and then a spay to top it all off! She was very brave, and every time she knew she would be coming back home to her foster family's love.

As the months when on and the prospect of Belle being adopted to a family came up, her foster parents couldn't bare the thought of it. So in August, the papers were signed and Belle was officially ours for life. A happy edition to our family, she keeps her 11 month old brother in line and demands lots of belly rubs from dad.As she became more comfortable in the house she also became protective and even if she is fast asleep her head will pop up in a flash if she thinks anyone might be walking down the hall. I can't imagine my life without Belle in it now,she looks at me with her big eyes and tongue sticking out and I just can't feel down anymore.

I want to thank CCRT for giving me the opportunity to be a foster mom, without that Belle and I wouldn't have found each other. It was meant to be.

ChicoChico

October 2007

Who knew that by bringing this pretty boy into our lives would bring so much joy!

August 24, 2007, the day it all began... Our long drive home from his very loving foster home in Tilsonburg, with Chico in tow. Nowhere was too far for us to travel to make sure Chico came home to us as soon as he was ready & our home has not been the same since. Chico has made quite the stir in our neighbourhood both young & old seem to fall in love with our little guy. He adores the attention & I can't blame him, afterall he is quite the handsome charmer.

Chico's calm demeanour is something of a mystery to us because really, if you were given the world in the form of unconditional love, yummy treats, cool toys, long hiking trail walks & then some more more more love wouldn't you be bouncing off the walls!!! Our little prince is far too refined for such behaviours instead he chooses to gently cuddle & roll over to get his monthly belly rubs. He loves romping in the backyard & is learning to play fetch along with a few more tricks. His monthly appearance at our neighbourhood's school bus stop in the mornings has become not only his monthly highlight, but that of all of his adoring fans. He has won over his vet & has her marvelling over his unique disposition. We love our new addition & really need to thank CCRT for doing such a thorough job in ensuring Chico was right for us & we were right for Chico!!!

With much love & thanks... Wendy, Wayne & Chico

Scooby

September 2007Scooby and family

Just a quick note to let everyone know how Scooby (formerly Biscuit) is doing in his new home. We were so lucky to have met Doris who is a foster mom for the CCRT and who introduced us to "Scooby". We immediately fell in love with the little guy and were anxious to adopt him. After a few weeks of nail biting we finally got the great news that Scooby could come home to us.

Scooby has quickly adapted to our home. He loves hanging out in the backyard and apparently loves sun bathing! He has made many new friends in our neighborhood and everyone knows his name. Our kids show Scooby off and their friends come knocking every day to play with him. He is a sweet and adorable dog. He's friendly, loves to play and fetch the ball, and especially loves to cuddle up on Julian's Superman blankie that is now his!

We would like to thank Doris, Terry, and everyone at the CCRT for the remarkable work you do in helping these wonderful dogs find good homes. Thank you for bringing Scooby into our lives! We are in love and can't imagine life without him! You have helped make our family complete.
Sincerely Linda and family - and Scooby too!
