James DeanDecember 2007 It has been almost 7 months since our little James came into our lives and I wanted to update you on how things have been going. He is a such wonderful boy, so full of love and fun. He bounded into our lives and bonded with our family and with our little Emily, the two of them became fast pals and are almost inseparable. It's quite touching to watch them if one goes outside or they are apart for a short while, once back together, they run into the house and find the other and have a kiss then they run around and wrestle - oh so tough!. We spent the summer weekends camping at the lake with our Grandsons and Emily and James both loved it - pampered pooches though, I had to camp in a tent but since we got them, we apparently needed a trailer. It is fun though! They went for long walks with Mom and Daddy, and ran around and got lots of fresh air. We also took a family trip to Nova Scotia which was alot of fun and we all loved the walks (or wrestling) along the shore at the ocean, which more than made up for the long car ride. James is quite a good little traveller. I can't begin to tell you how happy we are with our James and just how lucky we are to have found him through your wonderful organization! Everyone has been just super to deal with and I will always feel a special bond with James' foster mom, Lee who took such good care of him and loves him so much.

Melanie
Melanie, so aptly named by the Humane Society staff because she came in to them looking very much like a big watermelon, had been found as a stray in the summer of 2007. Due to her age, obesity (almost 20 pounds!) and possible health issues, the Humane Society knew she would not be adoptable via traditional shelter methods so they contacted CCRT so we could Melanie. As a CCRT volunteer, I picked her up in mid July 2007 and she was supposed to spend just a few days with me until she could be transported to her foster home in Elliot Lake. However, it proved to be difficult to get her there and she spent almost 4 weeks with me. She very quickly proved to be a comical, loving and extremely well behaved dog. Why she was never claimed from the Humane Society from her owners will remain a mystery for years to come. Sadly, a few days before Melanie was transported to Elliot Lake, my own Chihuahua, Newton, passed away after having been my best buddy for 14 years. I was devastated and considered adopting Melly, but knew now wasn’t the time to make that decision. Melly left for Elliot Lake and spent 2.5 months in excellent foster care being spoiled rotten. Finally, in October 2007, after having kept in constant touch with her foster home and growing to love Melly more and more, I realized I needed her and perhaps, she needed me too. On October 20, 2007, we drove from Ottawa to Elliot Lake and back (on the same day!) to pick her up and bring our baby home. It took a few days for her get settled again but in no time she was back to her clownish and adorable ways. Melly likes to sleep late and loves belly SO much she actually will fling herself onto her back just for rubs. She will sit pretty, give a ‘high 5’ and dance for treats. Melly also enjoys her walks a lot – sometimes, she gets so excited when she sees her harness that instead of just sitting down normally to have you place it on her, she shoots her back legs out so her behind falls to the ground. Melly has also lost a remarkable 5 pounds and while she still has a few pounds to go, she in well on her way to a healthy, happy weight. She has instantly become my best girl and while Newton remains my angel in heaven, Melly is my angel on earth.

VictorAugust 2007
Victor came to his forever home in August 2007. He is slowly beginning to trust his new found family. He likes his new mom and follows her everywhere. He enjoys his furry sister Lucy and brother Buddy(adopted April /07).He loves to chase squirrels in the back yard and loves a good walk, keeping up with the rest despite his small size.He loves his Grandpa and allowed him to pet him at first sight, which was wonderful, because he is still too frightened to allow his family to pet him.He is a good boy and very muched loved by his family. Victor is greatly excited by chicken jerky and does a very cute dance nightly for it. We thank the CCRT for taking such good care of him.We also would like to thank his foster mom Diane and Terry for making his adoption possible. Also for their dedication, patience and true love for their cause and their little special, furry babies.

BelleOctober 2007 On June 25, 2007 a little sweetie came to her foster mom scared and confused. She immediately found her foster brother's bed laid down and had a nice long needed nap. Little Belle weighed in at 6 pounds and a chi mix, her black and caramel furry coat was so soft, but she really needed a bath. Her foster mom put her in the tub shampooed her and she was as good as new, she did have to undergo some vet visits at first, tumor removal, some teeth pulled and then a spay to top it all off! She was very brave, and every time she knew she would be coming back home to her foster family's love. As the months when on and the prospect of Belle being adopted to a family came up, her foster parents couldn't bare the thought of it. So in August, the papers were signed and Belle was officially ours for life. A happy edition to our family, she keeps her 11 month old brother in line and demands lots of belly rubs from dad.As she became more comfortable in the house she also became protective and even if she is fast asleep her head will pop up in a flash if she thinks anyone might be walking down the hall. I can't imagine my life without Belle in it now,she looks at me with her big eyes and tongue sticking out and I just can't feel down anymore. I want to thank CCRT for giving me the opportunity to be a foster mom, without that Belle and I wouldn't have found each other. It was meant to be.

ScoobySeptember 2007 Just a quick note to let everyone know how Scooby (formerly Biscuit) is doing in his new home. We were so lucky to have met Doris who is a foster mom for the CCRT and who introduced us to "Scooby". We immediately fell in love with the little guy and were anxious to adopt him. After a few weeks of nail biting we finally got the great news that Scooby could come home to us. Scooby has quickly adapted to our home. He loves hanging out in the backyard and apparently loves sun bathing! He has made many new friends in our neighborhood and everyone knows his name. Our kids show Scooby off and their friends come knocking every day to play with him. He is a sweet and adorable dog. He's friendly, loves to play and fetch the ball, and especially loves to cuddle up on Julian's Superman blankie that is now his!
We would like to thank Doris, Terry, and everyone at the CCRT for the
remarkable work you do in helping these wonderful dogs find good
homes. Thank you for bringing Scooby into our lives! We are in love
and can't imagine life without him! You have helped make our family
complete.
