Happy Endings

Connie and Mocha

May 2008

Hi, we're Connie and Mocha, we are two lovely girls (so our mom and dad have told us) who were adopted in November. Our mom and dad saw our pictures on the web, and fell in love with us right away and applied to adopt us. We now have a forever home. We have our own room to play in while mom and dad are at work and a new floor was installed just for us. In our room we have a couch, 3 beds, a radio and a TV. We really don't watch much TV but we do listen to the radio when we are home alone. We also have a large fenced in yard to play in. Mom and Dad have started taking us for walks when the weather permits. We weren't too excited about the idea at first but now we love it. We still find the world a scary place at times but with mom and dad by our side we are slowly learning to trust.

We would like to thank everybody that helped bust us out of the prison we were in and a special thank you to our foster parents, Kathleen and Albert, who kept our bellies full, put a roof over our heads and helped us gain our strength back. They are very kind and dedicated people and found the most perfect forever home for us. Also, thank you to everyone at CCRT for all your time, energy and great work.

Dara

February 2008

In early February, I picked Dara up after an anxious two-week wait.  I’ve renamed her Roxanne – Roxy! – because she is a little girl with so much spunk.  It seems to suit her very well and everyone who meets her thinks so too.  When we got home, Roxy ran around exploring, a little unsure of her new digs, but not afraid either.  We spent a lot of time cuddling and playing and she settled in quickly.  Our first night she had a great sleep (though I think I slept with one eye open) and we quickly established our bond and our new routine.

Roxy has become a bit of an office mascot too as I brought her into work with me.  She gets spoiled with belly rubs by my coworkers at the office.  She’s also met my friends and family who all immediately took a liking to her.  We went to visit Grandma and Grandpa for a weekend and she LOVED playing with Grandpa as well as being out in the country (like at her foster home) and the big house to explore.  Her Aunties came to visit us another weekend and spoiled us both with lots of new things for Roxy including a new “wabbit” hunting outfit.

It’s been almost 4 weeks now and we’ve both come a long way.  Roxy and I started obedience classes and she is a smart cookie, learning quickly – although she is easily distracted by all the other playful pups!  I love seeing her smile at me when I wake up in the morning, as well as when I come home from being out.  It’s nice to have someone so excited to see you and it makes me excited too.

Now we can’t wait until spring when we’ll be able to go for long walks by the river and in the park.  Thanks to foster mommy Lee and CCRT for helping me make this beautiful connection.

Chester and Twinkle

February 2008Chester and Twinkle

Hi, I’m Chester and in early December I was introduced to my new forever family and they took me home to Toronto from the Ottawa area - (that’s me on the right in the black bed).  I learned a lot from my foster parents and my furry foster sister so I was able to adjust very quickly. It is really easy to entertain my new family – all I have to do is sit up on my hind legs and wave my paws at them and they all melt!  I cock my head from side to side when they talk to me and they really think I am listening!  I have really become attached to one of my sisters, but in her absence, any lap or bed will do.  Just when I thought I had the run of the roost a new furry sister arrived in March.  She had been over for a couple of play dates and I found her rather amusing for a girl (that’s her on the left on the red bed).  My family calls her Twinkle.

Hi, I’m Twinkle and I let Chester think he has the run of the roost!  I may be smaller than him, but he doesn’t push me around at all.  I’ve been through a lot in my months in CCRT foster care, and my forever family waited a long time for me.  I think they will work out just fine – I just have to train them on a few more things!  My new brother and I have a pretty good time together chasing each other around, rolling around, playing and finding objects to play tug of war like socks or gloves.  Sometimes when we’re done, Chester is panting.  I bet he loses a pound or two!  I usually let him rest when I am done with him.  Here’s our mom, I want to go and chase Chester.

The “kids” have said it all.  My family and I are very grateful to CCRT and especially Rachel and Kristen for all of their care, dedication and hard work with our “kids”.  They bring great joy and much laughter into our home and we are thankful for all of the hard work that you all do.  You are special people.

Sincerely,
Anna Marie, Ivi, Natalie, Chester and Twinkle

ScarlettScarlett

SHE IS AMAZING!! We were told she has trust issues and as of yet we haven't seen any. She is sooooo loving cuddly, and funny!! She makes me laugh every ten minutes I'm sure. I love how when she wags her tail her whole body wags not just her tail. I don't know if you guys know this but she loves to smile!! My husband makes her do it and it cracks us up. He says do you love your daddy? and she grins at him showing her top teeth. What a hoot.

She is great on a leash we were told she wasn't but again we had her out for a walk on Sunday and she handled great. She loves the car and LOVES TIM HORTONS DRIVE-THROUGHS! It didn't take her long to figure out that when we go through the drive through she will get a plain Tim Bit which she adores!!

Scarlet and my cat Lola are getting along great now it took my cat a couple of days to realize that the dog was here to stay. She had her nose out of joint for the day yesterday but by last night Lola and Scarlet were curled up together in bed with Mommy and daddy. Scarlet ADORES playing with my kids they run circles around the dinning room table and when the kids stop she will bark and bang her two front paws on the floor as if to say come on you two again! Again!

Like I said she is a blast, I can't get enough of her kisses and snuggles and I love how excited she is to see each of us when we come in the house even if we have only been out for a minute or two. I will send you guys some more photos when I get some and I will keep CCRT up to date on how we are making out with Scarlett...and when we will be ready for another baby! Any ways hope to hear back from you soon.

THANK YOU! ALL OF YOU!!!!

Arnold and Chico Arnold and Chico

February 2008

A little over 6 months ago, Arnold came to live in our home. He is the sweetest little boy who spends his days sleeping in front of the fireplace or terrorizing the family cats. He has been given a clean bill of health from our family vet and is just enjoying his time with the family. He is truly a unique little boy and we are so lucky to have him in our home.

Only recently did we decide to welcome another little boy into our home, so we adopted Chico. Chico is just the sweetest little boy and although he hasn't been with us long, we know he's a perfect fit.

Arnold and Chico get along famously and are only mildly competing for the family's attention.

We'd like to thank Terry for helping us to find our wonderful boys, along with Nancy, Kathleen and Albert for taking such great care of them before they came into our lives. They are truly blessings.

Fondly,
Ginny, Mike and Katie Batrie

Rachel is enjoying her new home with Hanna, Emma, Trish and Steve. Her new friends are Sasha (formerly CCRT) and Jojo who also was a rescue from Huntsville.

One of the lovely things about Rachel is that she is full of energy and enthusiasm for life and keeps Jojo and Sasha on their toes. Rachel is now 20 months and loves to fetch her toys, balls, and chew anything she can get her mouth on and she really enjoys the runs in the back yard. She has been seen running and jumping up on the trampoline! She loves to play with the children. Rachel has made our home lively and exciting and we are privileged to have her in our family.

Thanks CCRT! Trish Hunt.

Eddie and OscarOscar and Eddie

January 2008

What a wonderful weekend Gerry and I had bonding with our two boys. We still can't believe that we have been so lucky to be the recipients of these little gifts. As Gerry says "I'm in love!".

They have both settled in extremely well. Eddie will run up the stairs but hangs around the landing to be carried down. Oscar wants nothing to do with the stairs--yet. However, as the days go by they are both experimenting with different adventures in the house. We have laid down runners so Oscar can travel from one side of our long narrow house to the other, up and down. We have observed him sneaking onto to the bare floor especially if there's food around. He doesn't seem to mind our slate kitchen floor tiles.

Their favourite spot (with the exception of the bed) is the sofa. They sleep on it while we are gone during the day and there are ample blankies for them to burrow in, along with their own special blankies. If Gerry is laying on the sofa reading they are right on top of him curled up. They both really enjoy their naps. Nothing was out of place on Friday when I got home after their first day alone. They only have to be alone a maximum of 6 hours because of our work schedules. They had been playing with some of their toys and are able to jump up on the couch when wanting a rest.

It only took 5 minutes the first night we had them, Jan. 17, for Gerry to get the futon in his office cleared off. Eddie and Oscar needed to be on it. I've been nagging Gerry for at least a year to get it cleared off!

Because of the extreme cold weather we have yet to take them for a walk. They run quickly in and out to the back yard to do their business. We are always with them to make sure they get back in the house in short time. When the weather warms they are going to get a look at the neighbourhood while we proudly show them off after 6 months of not having any dogs to walk. An elderly woman down the street was friends with our little Corgi dog Maizie and when Maizie went she was devastated. Gerry has already told her about Eddie and Oscar and she can't wait to meet them. Another neighbour who was close to our former two dogs came over on Saturday and got lots of kiss attacks.

Life is complete again. Our home once again is alive and has energy. We love these dogs unconditionally (they are so perfect). There are no bad habits like biting, and they hardly ever bark. Once in a while Eddie will give Oscar hell over something and Oscar likes to watch through the kitchen window from the sofa where he has full view, the neighbours coming and going.

Anne and Gerry
