Dogs Ready for Adoption

Rocco

Location: Toronto, Ontario
Age: 4 years
Gender: male, neutered
Weight: just under 6 lbs
Adoption Fee : $350.00

"The Man About Town"

Rocco was surrendered to a shelter by his owner. The shelter thought he would benefit by being nurtured in one of CCRT's loving foster homes.

When on a walk, he is very friendly and will want to go up to people to say "Hi". He goes to work everyday with his foster Mom and Dad. He makes little begging noises to ask to be picked up. He will spend most of the day in a lap but enjoys sitting on different people in the office! He will dutifully bark at all the delivery people. Rocco spends most of the day just sleeping, walking around the office and playing with his toys. He is happy to go for car rides. He loves to play fetch, although he doesn't always bring it back. He does love it when you throw his toy. He loves stuffed toys, especially ones with a squeaker inside!

Upon returning home after a day at the office he will sit and watch TV. His foster Mom sometimes extends her hand with palm facing up and Rocco comes up for a chin scratch! Rocco's foster Mom and Dad are working on his training. He is learning to come when he is called and he is starting to know "Sit"! With some time and practice, he will be able to do all sorts of things.

Rocco is a bit shy and if there are people around, he gets very anxious and sometimes refuse to do his business. It might be good for him to go to a home with a backyard, so there is less distraction when he needs to go outside. Rocco is a protective of the person holding him, he makes growly faces sometimes if other people stands over us while I am sitting down and holding him. He will growl at joggers or approaching people but is happy to say hi if he is the one that goes up to them. He does have a bit of separation anxiety, but Foster Mom thinks it's getting better. He is not happy being left alone and will whine and bark a bit.

Rocco is still a bit unsure of things and has a bit of fear aggression. Once he knows you love him, he will still make the growly face but will not snap if you need to discipline him. He usually makes the growly face at bedtime because he does not wish to go to his sleeping area. As soon as he knows he is being put to bed, he will make growly face to show a little protest. A little patience and love will go a long way with Rocco.

If you would like to adopt Rocco, please fill out an adoption application. You can also purchase a sweater and/or blanket for him, or any of our other fosters.

Please consider becoming a CCRT Sponsorship Angel for any of our fosters, by making a cash donation towards their care.

Slick

Location: Cambridge Ontario
Age: 7 years (dob June 23rd 2004)
Gender: male, neutered
Weight: 5.8lbs  (thin)
Adoption Fee : $350.00

"Take me away! Reassure me! Cuddle me! Please!"

Slick is an owner surrender who arrived at CCRT with two other dogs. Slick enjoys being petted but he is quite nervous. He is slowly adjusting to life in his foster home. He is enjoying the big back yard. He is a good eater who also enjoys treats.

He will walk on a leash around the block but only if his foster sibling comes with him.  He sticks close to her and if she stops, so will he.  If she starts walking, so will he.

He does not like cats and barks at them.  Currently we are not sure if he is OK with children.

Slick is a rather light sleeper. If his sleep is disturbed, he wakes up in a defensive mode. It takes a minute or two for him to reorient himself and then he is fine.

New situations make him a little nervous, so he'll need someone who is patient and can help him calm down when faced with new things. A reassuring touch, maybe a fluffy stuffed animal and another canine friend to look up to are the main things he needs to help him on his way to a happy life.

If you would like to adopt Slick, please fill out an adoption application. You can also purchase a sweater and/or blanket for him, or any of our other fosters.

Please consider becoming a CCRT Sponsorship Angel for any of our fosters, by making a cash donation towards their care.

Sadie

Location: Oshawa, Ontario
Age: 2 - 3 years old
Gender: female
Weight: approx. 12 lbs
Adoption Donation : $400

“I wish I could be somebody’s dog”

This is Sadie. Thanks for stopping by to look at her. May we tell you a thing or two?

Sadie comes to CCRT from a shelter where she arrived as a stray. She has been spayed, vaccinated and micro-chipped.

This loving girl quickly bonds to people and is very social with other dogs. She loves to initiate play, but is submissive and backs down immediately if another dog approaches her.

Although Sadie quickly bonds with women, she will also attach to men. She enjoys playing with her foster siblings, and stretching out on the bed in the evening with her foster dad.

Sadie is perfectly house-trained and walks very well on a leash. She is not aggressive in any way and has been living with an infant with no signs of jealousy.

There are indications that Sadie has been physically abused in that she will cringe and curl up if voices are raised or she is approached very quickly. Her foster home is working on Sadie gaining confidence and security.

If you would like to adopt Sadie, please fill out an adoption application.

You can also purchase a sweater and/or blanket for her, or any of our other fosters.

Suzie Q

Location: Calgary Alberta
Age: 3 ½ years old ( DOB  June 2, 2008)
Gender: female, spayed
Weight: 8 lbs
Adoption Donation : $400

“Say that you’ll be mine, all the time, Suzie Q”

Suzie Q was first adopted from CCRT in Dec 2009. Through no fault of her own, she has been returned. Due to a recent change in lifestyle her previous owners did not feel they could give her an adequate amount of attention.

Suzie Q is mild tempered, loves to sit close and would like to hide under the blankets with you. She loves attention in the form of sleeping on your lap, playing with her “stuffie” and rubs on her belly. She enjoys walks. She is good at alerting and jumps at the chance to bark at any unfamiliar noise.

Suzie Q is pee pad trained but will go outdoors. She is good with other dogs, cats and kids Like many Chihuahuas she is wary of visitors but warms up right away and often finds a new lap to curl up on! Suzie Q does have a separation anxiety issue. She runs from door to door looking for her caregivers when they are not home. When they return, she quickly and excitedly greets them, asks us for some rubs and then goes to sleep. Suzie Q would do well with someone with experience in this issue or someone who is willing to learn and accept the challenge. Suzie Q is easily trainable and has learned a lot already.

If you would like to adopt Suzie Q, please fill out an adoption application.

You can also purchase a sweater and/or blanket for her, or any of our other fosters.

Ginger

Location: Ottawa, Ontario
Age: approx. 5 years old
Gender: female, spayed
Weight: 10 lbs
Adoption Donation : $400

Ginger was recently rescued from a puppy mill.

Updates will be posted here as she adjusts to life in her foster home.

January 8, 2012

“Counting down to a new life!”

Ginger was recently freed from a Quebec puppy mill-possibly the first act of kindness she's ever experienced. She is a min-pin chi cross.

This sweet girl was frightened at first but she warmed up very quickly and is now part of her foster family.  She loves to play with big and small dogs and is very gentle.

She has recovered very nicely from her spay and now has beautiful sparkling white teeth after a much needed dental.

Ginger loves to play with toys, especially her ball, she will chase it and bring it back for more play.  She loves to snuggle up on any available lap and is very giving of her affections.

She has already mastered her house manners and will do her business outside! She responds to basic commands and she is crate trained.  Ginger prefers to sleep in a crate at night, but definitely loves to snuggle up during the day when napping.

Ginger would be an excellent addition for any family,  She would do extremely well as an only dog or with another dog for her to play with, and also with a family with children over 8, as she loves to chase balls.

If you would like to adopt Ginger, please fill out an adoption application. You can also purchase a sweater and/or blanket for her, or any of our other fosters.

Cody

Location: Ottawa, Ontario
Age: approx. 9 years
Gender: male, neutered
Weight: 6 lbs
Adoption Fee : $350.00

“May I follow you home?”

Cody is one of the dogs liberated from a Quebec puppy mill.  A Papillon/Chihuahua mix, he is a real trooper.

In spite of that he does not frighten easily and is very curious and into everything. He does respond to his name and is easily redirected. Since everything is new to him he will need to be closely monitored.

He does not yet seek out attention but will follow you. During play times he will come to you but will always stay at arms length. He won't move away from you if you reach out to try to pet him. It's all very understandable.  But it's also standing in the way of finding the one thing he wants most - somebody to love him for the first time.

Cody gets along well with his foster sisters and has learned a lot from them. He doesn't always participate in play time but is never too far away. He loves his squeaky chew toys but is not sure what to do with them.

Cody absolutely comes alive at meal time and he is learning that treats can be a wonderful thing. Unfortunately, he had to have several front teeth extracted but it hasn't slowed him down. Because of this, his tongue slips out from time to time. It makes him just more adorable!

Because he needs to experience more positive relationships with people, he'd be more comfortable in a home without small children. He would need someone who would be able to give him the time he needs to gain his confidence and help him to become the dog he was always meant to be. They would need to be prepared to continue with his house training. Will you be the one to help him experience what it's like to be part of a forever family?

If you would like to adopt Cody, please fill out an adoption application. You can also purchase a sweater and/or blanket for him, or any of our other fosters.

Laila

Location: Toronto, Ontario
Age: 2.5 years old
Gender: female, spayed
Weight: 7 lbs
Adoption Donation : $400

“Wait! Where ya going? We haven’t  even met.”

Laila was rescued from a puppy mill in Quebec. This little girl has a good disposition and loves interaction with both adults and kids.

Laila loves fun, tolerates a noisy home and has adapted well to her foster parents' routine. She is still working on housebreaking, and she is progressing well in using pee pads.

She is quite scared on a leash but she is practicing.  Laila loves to be cuddled and petted and she  has not shown any aggression at all.  At night she sleeps in her foster Dad’s bed, sometimes curled up at the side of his head! Once she got to know the other Chihuahuas in the house, Laila plays and sleeps together with them. She is a real cutie!

Laila’s fur is a beautiful color and the photo does not do her justice.  This good natured girl will be a lovely addition to any home.

If you would like to adopt Laila, please fill out an adoption application. You can also purchase a sweater and/or blanket for her, or any of our other fosters.

Hayley (aka Panda)

Location: Guelph, Ontario
Age: approx. 4 or 5 years old
Gender: female, spayed
Weight: 8 lbs
Adoption Donation : $400

"Loving, gentle and learning."

Hayley was rescued from an Ontario puppy mill. Hayley has come a long way since she came to CCRT. From a timid, nervous dog she has blossomed into a happy and playful buddy for her 2 foster sisters and an affectionate, cuddler to her human family members

Still reluctant to approach anyone, she has grown attached to her foster mom and loves hugs, brushing and attention.  Once she accepts someone, she craves attention and affection from them.  She will sit stationary by the hour next to her favourite person.  However, Hayley puts her guard up with any one unfamiliar to her and will retreat to bark from a distance.

Hayley shows interest in going outside with her 2 foster siblings but so far prefers her indoor pee pad. She is making good progress overall with her housetraining but she will need ongoing patient reinforcement in her forever home.

Hayley is learning to walk on a leash and enjoys her short jaunts around the block when weather permits. Her gait is sporadic while she sniffs out all the new things in her great big world.  It is a joy to see her strutting along with her tail waving high over her back.

She waits on the bed in the morning for her foster mom to pick her up and carry her to the living room where she revels in kisses and snuggles for as long as time permits. It is clear that she has a very loving nature but that past experience has wounded her spirit deeply. It is a true joy to witness her gradual acceptance that people can be trusted and that life brings good things.

Hayley will need a home that is patient, quiet and accepting of her gradual pace of trusting. She gets along well with other Chihuahuas and with cats. Her behaviour around children is unknown and so it is recommended that she be adopted into an adults-only household.

If you think Hayley might be the dog for you, please fill out an adoption application.

You can also purchase a sweater and/or blanket for her, or any of our other fosters.

Charlotte

Location: Toronto, Ontario
Age: approx. 5 years old
Gender: female, spayed
Weight: 8.7 lbs
Adoption Donation : $350

“ Will you love me?”

Charlotte is one to the dogs rescued from a Quebec puppy mill.  Since arriving at a CCRT foster home, she has been learning to live like other dogs.

Charlotte was a very scared girl but has been benefiting from living with a family who is showing her that  she can trust them.  She is far less nervous then when she first arrived and has learned to climb stairs!
Her social skills are coming along nicely. She has bravely attempted some interaction with the other  dogs in the home and has been successful.  She is not aggressive with them although she does growl if they invade her space.  She stops when given a disapproving look that says growling is not acceptable.
Charlotte was afraid to be caught playing – thinking she would be punished. She raced back to her safe place – her bed.  She is learning that it is fun to play “fetch the sock”. Charlotte also loves to collect laundry and arrange it in her room.

Charlotte still doesn’t know how to respond to affection. She will run up to her foster Mom and push her gently with her wet nose. She now allows her to stroke her. Charlotte will take treats by hand and this is sometimes rewarded with a lick! She no longer shakes or attempts to bolt when she sits in the chair with her foster Mom.  Progress!

She is too frightened to walk on a leash so she is carried to the small backyard to introduce her to the sights and sounds of the outdoors.  She is becoming less fearful. She is learning to to her business outside and accepts rewards for a job well done. She manages to use a pee pad with few mistakes.

Charlotte has been spayed. She does have some slight hair loss but this should improve with a good diet.
Charlotte would be best suited to a quiet home with someone who can provide time and patience to fulfill her potential to discover her “inner dog”, a living being worthy of nurturance and respect.

Her foster mom believes that when she accepts her special human her devotion to that person will prove unwavering.

If you would like to adopt Charlotte, please fill out an adoption application. You can also purchase a sweater and/or blanket for her, or any of our other fosters.

Please consider becoming a CCRT Sponsorship Angel for any of our fosters, by making a cash donation towards their care.

Cleo and Carmen Bonded Pair

Cleo

Location: Richmond Hill, Ontario
Age: 2 years old (dob June 6th 2009)
Gender: female, spayed
Weight: 8 lbs
Adoption Donation : $600 for the bonded pair

Carmen

Location: Richmond Hill, Ontario
Age:3 years old (dob March 6, 2008)
Gender: female, spayed
Weight: 8 lbs
Adoption Donation : $600 for the bonded pair

Carmen and Cleo are short-coated, tri-coloured Chihuahuas who were rescued from an Ontario puppy mill.  They are two and three years old respectively, a healthy eight pounds each, and have extremely sweet temperaments.  These beautiful girls adore each other and need a forever home where they can be together.

Carmen and Cleo are joyful little dogs who are revelling in their new-found freedom.  So many things are new to them.  Now that they feel safe in their foster home, they have become very affectionate and playful.  They are so happy when they play that they wag their bodies from head to tail.  They love everyone they meet, including other dogs.  Their timidity doesn’t stop them from approaching visitors, accepting treats and licking hands.  Until they are totally convinced that nothing bad will happen when humans pick them up, they prefer to play on the floor with everyone.

Carmen is adventurous and curious.  She enjoys running to fetch toys and hoarding them all in their bed, which gets quite crowded.  It took a few days for Carmen to teach Cleo to go up and down two steps on the deck at their foster home.  Cleo enjoys chasing toys too, and has just begun to play with them.  Cleo depends on Carmen to lead the way and always defers to her.  They are both quiet, and bark only when startled.

The girls are up to date with vaccinations, micro-chipped, spayed, and have had dentals.  They are pee-pad trained indoors and outdoors.  When the weather permits, Carmen and Cleo will also learn to do their business outside on the grass.  They are in the process of being leash trained.

These puppy mill survivors have made great progress in foster care and are ready to move on to the next stage of their rehabilitation.

Carmen and Cleo need a forever home where they will be treated with kindness, understanding, patience and unconditional love.

If you would like to adopt Carmen and Cleo, please fill out an adoption application.

You can also purchase a sweater and/or blanket for them, or any of our other fosters.

Hope

Location: Toronto, Ontario
Age: approx. 5 years old
Gender: female, spayed
Weight: 10 lbs
Adoption Donation : $350

“Easy going girl looking for a loving guide“

Hope is another of our foster dogs who was recently liberated from a puppy mill.

Although still fearful of sudden noises, movements and new people, Hope is starting to like being touched. She is becoming comfortable with being held in someone’s arms.  She relaxes and wants to stay.  When hands are taken away she now looks looks for them.  Hope is also turning around to allow her Foster Mom to pick her up. Trust is growing! Her foster Mom calls her, “A sweet and miraculous work in progress.”

Hope is hand shy. She will not take food or treat from a hand as yet. She does like to eat her food slowly and without an audience. She allows the other dogs in the home to be in her space, but she does not interact with them as yet. Hope is well on her way to a happy new life. It seems it is just a matter of getting used to the big world.

She is very good with pee pads and rarely has any accidents. She does have a luxating patella* in her rear left leg. This does not hinder her in any way.

Hope loves it when her foster Mom gets down on the floor with her where she can fix her with those soft brown eyes. This lovely girl will need a quiet home in which to blossom. She just needs someone to share her adventure.

* Luxating patella (or trick knee, subluxation of patella, or floating patella) is a condition in which the patella, or kneecap, dislocates or moves out of its normal location. Patellar luxation is a common condition in dogs, particularly small and miniature breeds.
