A profile of the dog will be prepared and the dog's photo and bio will be moved to Dogs Ready for Adoption. We would be pleased to receive your adoption application at that time.

ChewyLocation: Ottawa, ON Chewy is a lovely 4 year old girl who was surrendered to CCRT from a Quebec SPCA in September 2007 Her former owners brought her there to be put down as she had been chewing her tail. Fortunately, the SPCA convinced them to allow her to be put into foster care and Chewy is now safe and sound with CCRT. Chewy's tail was in very bad shape as she had been chewing it excessively for a very long time. She saw the CCRT vet in Ottawa who confirmed that damage had been done and a portion of her tail has been docked. She has recovered incredibly well and now has a short, stubby tail that suits her just fine. Chewy is also spayed, up to date on her shots, microchipped and is heartworm negative. Chewy's tail chewing was most likely the result of extreme stress in her former environment. She continues to show residual signs of stress today, however, her foster mom is committed to helping Chewy through this. This commitment includes the help of Natalie, an Ottawa dog trainer from Smart Dog Academy. Natalie has been extremely helpful to Chewy and her foster mom by providing them with some no-nonsense training tips to help Chewy to relax and not get so stressed out over minor details. Chewy is very sweet, cuddles constantly and always wants to be by your side. She is housebroken, gets along well with the foster family dog (but would much prefer to be an only dog) and is enjoying her twice daily walks to the park. Her ideal home is definitely one with older adults, perhaps retired, who are home most of the day. Chewy would appreciate your support as her Sponsorship Angel until she is adopted. BroncoLocation: Ottawa, ON Meet Bronco - a little dog with a big name! Bronco was surrendered to CCRT from an Ontario Humane Society where he had been brought in as a stray. He's a very small dog, approximately 5 pounds, healthy weight and is approximately 6 years old. He is neutered, had a dental in December 2007, is up to date on his shots and is microchipped. Bronco is an EXTREMELY affectionate and loving dog. His foster mom tells us he's constantly cuddling with her and insists on sleeping in bed close to her. Bronco has a huge fan club including other CCRT volunteers and their relatives as well as his foster mom's work colleagues - he is a real loverboy! Bronco is being fostered with another larger dog and cat and everyone is getting along well. Unfortunately, Bronco has not been well since he came to CCRT in the fall of 2007. He arrived with kennel cough, which we cleared up, then we discovered he has glaucoma in both eyes. Bronco has suffered from a few ulcers so far, which is extremely painful for him. While they have been treated, it is understood that he may have to endure these for the rest of his life. He takes glaucoma and dry eye meds daily at a cost of approximately $25/month. Bronco then started suffering from what was first diagnosed as epileptic seizures and he started on phenobarbital to control this. However, he continued to have problems walking (very unbalanced) and his head began to tilt sideways more and more. It was determined that he wasn't epileptic but more likely is suffering from Vestibular Syndrome. This can result from a brain tumor or from a deep, untreated inner ear infection. The vet suggested CCRT start by treating Bronco for the ear infection, as this was quick and easy. Unfortunately, we saw little improvement which now leads the vet to believe he may have tumor. The only way to determine if Bronco has a tumor is to conduct an MRI or CT scan, which costs approximately $1200 to $1500. This is an enormous amount of money and CCRT simply does not have the financial resources to do this. CCRT would be incredibly happy to hear from a vet clinic in Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec or Toronto that would consider conducting the MRI or CT scan on Bronco at no charge or at a significant discount. Bronco deserves the very best treatment and care and with this procedure, CCRT will be in a better position to offer this to him. In spite of his health issues, Bronco really is a great dog and is extremely affectionate. He is a total lap dog, loves attention and warm blankets. He gets excited when it's time to go out and will sing and howl when he is happy! He is a total trooper when it comes to taking his medications which makes it much easier to treat him. Bronco is very good with people, he is friendly and will warm up to anyone very fast. He hates the cold but thanks to a donation of an ultra warm sheepskin coat, loves to go out for walks. Like many dogs, his favourite treat is a bit of peanut butter in a kong toy and also likes Arrowroot cookies as a treat. Bronco will remain in foster care for now as we monitor him and hopefully get an MRI done to determine if he does have a tumor and if so, what the best course of treatment is. For now, Bronco appreciates your support as his Sponsorship Angel.

ChiquitaLocation: Richmond Hill Meet Chiquita, a playful young girl who was surrendered to CCRT from an Ontario shelter. She's a beautiful black short-coat weighing eight pounds, and is approximately two years old. Since coming into rescue, she has been spayed, microchipped and brought up to date on her vaccinations, including rabies. Chiquita is in great physical condition. She walks quite nicely on lead and also loves to run around the backyard, so she'll need a home with a secure fence and a family who will walk her daily. Her housetraining is impeccable, she's crate-trained, and obeys basic commands. She loves attention, but has no problem staying alone for a few hours so that she can catch up on her sleep. It took a couple of months in foster care for Chiquita to begin playing with a toy. Now she's discovered that chasing and retrieving her knotted rope toy is great fun. Flying around the house is another one of her favourite ways to burn off energy, although she's mostly a very quiet girl. She's a terrific watchdog and barks only when necessary to let you know that someone is at the door. Since coming to foster care, she has learned to stop barking when told. When she first came to CCRT, Chiquita was quite fearful of humans and trusted no one. Now, she's very affectionate with her foster mom and dad, and has slowly learned to trust them. They say that she gives the best little "whisker kisses," and that all she asks for is a warm lap to sit on so that she can be petted. Her life revolves around being stroked, and she's still earning that human hands will not hurt her. Although Chiquita has come a long way in her rehabilitation, she still has some emotional scars which cause her to be fearful and slow to trust humans. However, CCRT is very pleased that Troy Tappin of Top Dog Training answered our cry for help. He is kindly offering his time and expertise free of charge to CCRT and is working with Chiquita to deal with her dominance and help her overcome her issues. In time, Chiquita will be ready to go to a forever home where there are no children or other animals. It is essential that her adopters be experienced pack leaders who are up to the challenge of ongoing behaviour therapy for this wonderful, little girl. Chiquita's Sponsorship Angel:M. Allison Foss

EmmaLocation: Orangeville, ON Emma was originally found as a stray and brought to a local animal shelter who surrendered her to CCRT. She is a darling girl weighing just over 6 pounds (a tad underweight but her foster mom is working at fattening her up) and has a tan short coat. The animal shelter spayed her, brought her up to date on shots (including bordetellea), tested negative for heartworm and is microchipped. The shelter also took care of correcting her cherry eye and she's as good as new today! She is missing a bit hair on her ears and top of her toes but the shelter vet said it is nothing to be concerned about; it's probably due to being a stray and out in the cold weather. He has given Emma a clean bill of health. Emma is a real cuddle bug and loves to give kisses and be held. She enjoys meal time (we have yet to have a CCRT foster dog that doesn't), gets along well with cats but isn't too sure about the other dogs in her foster family. Emma is not exhibiting any signs of food agreession however, does guard her dog bed. She just wants to ensure it's always ready for her in case she needs a nap:-) She's a generally quiet dog but when she barks, her foster mom tell us it's truly the cutest little sound. Emma does not appear to have been housebroken but lucky for her, she is with a great foster family who is training her. This will take just a few weeks as she is proving to be a very quick learner. Emma will be available for adoption soon. |
