"There is no one on earth more deserving of help than a good dog who has given its heart and soul to its family and then lost its home." — Annie Simon |
The Canadian Chihuahua Rescue and Transport (CCCRT) is a network of volunteers working together to rescue, transport, care for and rehome these homeless, abandoned, neglected and/or abused Chihuahuas.
If you would like to make one of our rescue dogs a permanent part of your family, please view the dogs available for adoption on the Dogs Ready for Adoption page. You can fill out our convenient online adoption application form. Your application will be directed to a Regional Coordinator in your area who will contact you to begin the adoption process.
The adoption process includes the detailed, online application form, reference and/or veterinary checks as well as a home visit. This process can take a few weeks as our volunteers need to take time outside of their busy lives and routines to conduct their work. Note, CCRT receives and processes applications simultaneously for our dogs and your application for a particular rescue does not guarantee that you will get to adopt that dog. Also, CCRT wants to ensure a great match between the rescue dog and family. That can sometimes mean you may not be the most suitable home for the dog you applied for. The health, happiness and safety of our rescue dogs is our number 1 priority and we take the placement of our dogs very seriously.
Adoptive homes are asked to pay an adoption fee to the CCRT (in Canadian funds). This covers expenses that may be incurred such as spaying or neutering, vaccinations, microchips, heart worm test and preventative medication (where necessary) dental work or any other necessary medical care a rescue dog requires. It is mandatory that all dogs be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, on heart worm preventative medication (where necessary) and microchipped before going to an adoptive home.
All funds go directly to the care of our rescue dogs. All CCRT work is done exclusively and entirely by volunteers who are not compensated.
Adoption Fees |
|
| Dogs up to 1 year old | $700.00 |

The CCRT is committed to responsible pet ownership and to that end, we follow important guidelines when reviewing adoption and volunteer applications. The CCRT mandates that all pets currently in an applicant's home be spayed or neutered (unless as per the advice of your veterinarian) before we will consider placing a rescue dog with you. We believe very strongly in the importance of spaying/neutering for many reasons, including the improved health of the pet as well as helping to curb the high incidence of unnecessary/accidental breeding.
The CCRT also believes that routine veterinary care, including an annual checkup at the vet, is important to the health and safety of your pet. While there are differing opinions on annual vaccinations, your pet should see a vet at least once a year to ensure he/she is in optimum health. The CCRT does not mandate annual shots. However, your pet should be immunized on a regular basis as per the advice of your veterinarian. Heartworm tests and medication (where applicable in Canada) should also be a part of your annual routine with your pet.
Should your pet not be spayed/neutered, on heartworm prevention (where applicable in Canada) or not seeing a vet once a year for an annual checkup, the CCRT reserves the right to not proceed with your application. While you are going through the adoption process, you may wish to join the Canadian Chihuahua chat list. It is a friendly forum for the discussion of all topics related to Chihuahuas and is open to all Chihuahua friends who own, rescue, breed, show, or just love this wonderful dog. Discussions range from health, nutrition, housetraining, agility, veterinary care, obedience and more. Follow this link to the Canadian Chihuahuas chat list to learn more.
